Have Beautiful Feet Again!
What Is Lunula Laser Therapy?
The revolutionary Lunula laser brings new hope to people suffering from fungal nail infections, medically known as onychomycosis.
Lunula is a cold laser therapy and is the first and only cold laser therapy approved for fungal nail infections. It is safe & effective and has distinct advantages over other laser therapies for fungal nails as it is
- Pain free
- No recovery time
- No side effects
- No risk of inhaling smoke plumes
Lunula also poses none of the risks and side effects of oral antifungal medications and does not require regular blood testing during the course of treatment.
How Does Lunula Laser Therapy Work?
The Lunula laser targets the fungus that lives in and under the toenail. The laser beams pass through the nail without causing damage to it, or the surrounding skin.
These 2 distinct beams, working in combination, cause the unique effect of both killing the fungus and stimulating new nail growth.
- 405nm Violet Beam breaks down the fungus
- 635nm Red Beam stimulates healing & new nail growth
How Good Is Lunula Laser Therapy?
89% of patients respond to treatment and studies show results of 6.1mm of clear new nail growth in 6 months.
How Long Does Lunula Therapy Take To Work?
How long a course of treatment takes depends on how bad and embedded the fungus is in your nails. It takes several months in most cases and on average 4-6 treatment sessions.
The effected part of the nail must grow out to reveal the normal clear nail. As a full normal nail growth cycle takes 9-18 months to complete, severe cases do take time.
In very severe cases it can take 2 full cycles of nail growth for the nail to heal, reattach and flatten.
What To Expect In Your Treatment Session
Your podiatrist will ask you to remove your sock and shoe. Then your podiatrist will debride your nail where necessary. Don’t worry- this won’t hurt but it is a necessary step to remove the outer dead part of the nail so the laser can really target the underlying living tissue where the fungus is growing from.
Next your podiatrist will ask you to place your foot into the compact Lunula Laser machine. The treatment cycle lasts 12 minutes.
We often treat both feet, as even if your other foot looks ok for now, fungal infections usually start in one and quickly spread to the other so we want to make sure we zap everything.
Your podiatrist will also give you advice on what to do at home to help with killing off the fungus and improving your healing.
